Flexible Learning
Every student’s journey looks different, and so does every life schedule. Our Flexible Learning option is designed to fit those realities, whether students are catching up on credits, working, caring for family, or balancing parenthood. ODLS students have the freedom to learn on their terms, with the guidance and support needed to stay on track and succeed.
Supportive Scheduling
Every student is unique. That’s why we’re offering an education experience that adapts to your family’s schedule and your child’s learning needs. Whether you need more structure or greater independence, personalized learning provides the right balance of autonomy and support to help students thrive.

The Possibilities
Families can work with school staff and homeroom teachers to establish their own learning structure and schedules. Students in this program have opportunities for enhanced learning models, access to anytime learning, and receive continuing support from certified teachers.
Core Benefits for Students and Families
There are many reasons to choose a more flexible schedule that fits your family’s needs. Here are some of the main benefits students enjoy:
Learn on Your Schedule
Adjust learning times to fit your family’s routine. Whether your child has interests outside of school or wants to take advanced learning opportunities, an asynchronous schedule allows you to fit school around your family’s lifestyle.
Stay on Track With Support
Scheduled check-ins with homeroom teachers will provide your child with the guidance and resources they need to succeed. Teachers are available to answer questions, provide encouragement, and offer academic assistance.
A Solution for Busy Families
Whether balancing extracurricular activities, medical needs, travel, or other commitments, ODLS wants to ensure schooling fits seamlessly into your daily life.
How Flexible Learning Works
Rather than attending daily live classes or teacher-led instruction, students are offered optional recorded virtual classes or can attend scheduled live sessions with flexible scheduling throughout the school day and week. They are also assigned teachers for support and resources. To remain in this program, students must adhere to all Ohio state engagement and attendance laws.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the curriculum the same for flexible learning and standard programs?
Yes, students complete the same curriculum in both programs. Like all students, flexible learning students access the Canvas platform for their courses and sample schedules, which they can adapt when structuring their learning.
How often do flexible learning students receive support?
The amount of support students receive depends on their needs. Dedicated teachers are available by email and phone on school days and have regularly scheduled and posted office hours each week. These are set times when teachers are in a virtual classroom session, ready to answer questions from students and Learning Coaches. Students with IEPs receive all the services outlined in their plans, including specifically designed instruction time with special education teachers.
