Develop a Plan for Success
Planning for life after high school is especially important for students who’ve faced challenges. That’s why every student at ODLS creates an Individualized Career Plan mapping out goals, coursework, and next steps with 1:1 support from advisors and counselors. Students participate in monthly check-ins that help them get motivated, stay accountable, and prepare for the future they want.

Whether your student plans on a four-year college after high school or is considering a more immediate work path, we offer the right tools to help them:

Get Guidance From Experienced Counselors
In addition to college and career planning and support tools, students also benefit from one-to-one support from experienced academic counselors, who:
- Guide students to important planning resources
- Track students’ goals as part of their individualized career plan—including targeted colleges, scholarships, and career aspirations
School counselors use the OhioMeansJobs site to guide students in developing their career “backpack” to house their career plan, résumé, and information about education and training programs.

Stay On Track With Regular Assessments
At ODLS, we use leading evaluation methods to clearly identify and monitor where each student is academically.
- Benchmark tests at the beginning of the year help diagnose each student’s strengths and challenges.
- State testing helps focus instruction on fine-tuning exactly what each student needs.
- Realistic learning objectives and a comprehensive, customized plan are tailored to the learner to help them reach their own academic and career goals.
- Ongoing testing is administered as needed to ensure each student is making progress toward their own goals.

- Teachers work with tools within the online school platform to make sure lesson plans are based on student needs and to monitor the progress the student has made to date.
- Parents and older students can use planning and progress tools to organize their schedule, create flexibility when needed, and track completed work.
